Meet Kenzi Design’s founder Cath McKenzie
Kenzi Design is led by Cath McKenzie, who first arrived in Tauranga from Australia in 2008. After working for a national kitchen company in Brisbane for several years, and fresh out of her Interior Technology course, Cath and her husband made the move to New Zealand, where she started working for a local kitchen company.
After working there for six years, Cath took some time out of the workforce to focus on her family. She continued designing kitchens for friends and family and worked from home, helping her husband build his plumbing, drainlaying & gas fitting business. When she returned full-time to kitchen design, Cath took care of design projects for several builders – Harwood Homes, Asset Homes & Ultimate Homes.
She was promoted to Senior Designer, but soon realised that the responsibilities in this role were steering her away from what she loves doing most – designing. The time was right to venture out as an independent kitchen and spatial designer, and Kenzi Design was launched.
With nearly 20 years in the field of designing kitchens and cabinetry for homes, Cath knows that the most rewarding part of what she does is invent spaces that are tailored to the people who use them, and creating a vibe and a functional space they are happy to be in.
She enjoys finding the right solutions for home renovation projects but also likes starting fresh with a new house or workspace plan. She has designed many residential and small commercial projects over the years, adding a welcome variety to her workload and giving her opportunities to solve problems on different levels.
